Я думаю, надо что-то менять в российском хоккее. Он у нас по уровню сильно отличается даже от европейского. Хоть мы и выигрываем Кубок чемпионов, что-то я сомневаюсь, что российский хоккей выше по уровню, чем европейский. Даже прилив новых игроков из Европы в НХЛ больше, чем из России. Раньше было наоборот. В этом году сколько - один игрок прибавился, Овечкин? Все вроде. Просто мы пропустили какой-то важный период. Раньше хоккею уделяли внимание, казалось, что все хорошо. Думали: "Теперь мы в порядке". И что-то упустили. А сейчас наверстать тяжело...
У нас всю Олимпиаду не было игры в большинстве. Думаю, сейчас большинство - это решающий фактор на таком турнире. Значит, надо менять систему подготовки к играм.

Владимиру Васильевичу Крикунову нужно вести себя немножко скромнее и брать пример с Владимира Владимировича Юрзинова, который был на высоте во всех вопросах. Сейчас Крикунов говорит, что он бы набрал половину сборной из игроков суперлиги. Надо быть мужиком! Он же заранее знал состав команды! Не хочешь тренировать – скажи, что не будешь. Пусть работает кто-то другой. А сейчас легко махать кулаками после драки. Мне высказывания Крикунова очень неприятны. Я такого от него не ожидал.

It would be better if Krikunov took Yurzionov behaviour as an example. He must be more modestly. Krikunov said now he would recruit a team half-filled of Russian Elite League players. Hey! Be a man! You know the roster before Olympics! If you don't wanna coach this team - just say this! It so easy shut the stable door when the horse is stolen ! That's all very unpleasant to me.

There is a serious lack of good coaching across youth levels. Due to a lack of salaries, good coaches leave for other professions. What is left are old players who are not qualified to coach.
''A country like Sweden or the Czech Republic have a very strict certificate program for coaches of all levels, especially junior [hockey]. In Russia, along with the problem of coaches, a new socio-economic element has created some major changes in the final output of [players].
''Before the collapse of the USSR, there were thousands of outdoor rinks in every quarter of every city and town. Kids played outside all day and played hockey. [They] did not need money to play. That was their hobby. Imagine how many more kids you have playing if you have so many rinks in Russia with its population!"
Those rinks no longer exist, Bobrov said, because local governments don't subsidize the hockey programs. Instead, Russia has a problem similar to one that some say exists in the United States -- that only upper-middle class and upper-class families can afford to pay for ice time, equipment, and league fees.
